Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Wood Protector Teak oil for protecting exterior wood
Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Wood Protector oil finish is suitable for protecting and colouring most wood species outdoors. Just one coat is enough for wooden façades, decking, pergolas, fences, garden furniture and other items, protecting them from bad weather. Easy application and maintenance are the hallmarks of this exceptional product.

Wet the surface with water
Use a garden hose, but avoid pressure washers, as pressure washing can damage the surface if used incorrectly. If the wood has been treated with a finish other than Hybrid Wood Protector, the previous finish must be removed before applying Hybrid Wood Protector. Make sure any previous finish has been removed. Start with a low grit and work through successive grits (e.g. 40, 80, 100, 120).
Apply undiluted Rubio Monocoat Exterior Wood Cleaner
Always wear protective gloves, goggles or a face shield.
Scrub the treated area with a stiff-bristled nylon brush along
the grain until clean. For stubborn residues, repeat the treatment with Rubio Monocoat Exterior Wood Cleaner. Keep the surface wet with the cleaning solution for 10-15 minutes.
Rinse thoroughly with water until all foam and dirt residues
are gone and let the surface dry completely.
Stir Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Wood Protector thoroughly until
you get a consistent mixture. Carefully add 10% Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C component B accelerator to the oil. The pot life is 4-6 hours. Mix only what you can use within that time. The accelerator (part B) is not required for vertical surfaces.
Apply a coat of Hybrid Wood Protector with a stiff-bristled brush
Let the oil react for 10 minutes
Then smooth the surface again with the same brush (without applying new product).
After 5 minutes gently wipe the surface with a lint-free cloth
to remove traces of excess oil until the surface is even.

Apply undiluted Rubio Monocoat Exterior Wood Cleaner

Use a stiff-bristled brush and spread the oil along the grain.
Let the oil react for 10 minutes
Then smooth the surface again with the same brush (without applying new product).
After 5 minutes wipe the surface with a lint-free cloth to
remove excess oil until the surface looks even (or use a thick white buffing pad if you use a buffing solution).
⚠️ Important application instructions.
Never apply in direct sunlight or at temperatures below 10 °C, and work only in dry weather.
Maintenance
Maintenance of Hybrid Wood Protector on vertical exposures is needed less often. The severity of exposure determines how often a maintenance coat is needed. South/west exposures usually need maintenance sooner than north/east ones. Expect a maintenance coat on the most weather-exposed areas within 2–3 years.
- When the treated wood shows weathering, a maintenance application of Hybrid Wood Protector in the originally applied colour is required. Before applying Hybrid Wood Protector, the surface must be cleaned and properly prepared.
- For decking, stairs and tables/chairs, a maintenance coat of Hybrid Wood Protector is generally needed every year after the first application. The maintenance coat should be applied before the weather turns unsuitable (even if less than a year has passed since the first application).

Clean the wood surface thoroughly with Rubio Monocoat Exterior
Wood Cleaner. For lightly weathered surfaces, dilute 1 part cleaner with 2 parts clean water. For moderately to heavily weathered surfaces, dilute 1 part cleaner with 1 part clean water.
