Starbond Hobby & Craft Brush-On Super Glue 10 g – foam-safe brush-on super glue for models, low-odour
Code: 8977Related products
Product detailed description
A model glue that won't melt foam. Brush in the cap, bonded in 5–15 seconds.
Ordinary super glue “eats” foam — and more always runs out of the bottle tip than you wanted. Starbond Hobby & Craft Brush-On is a cyanoacrylate developed for modelling materials: EPS, EPP and XPS foam, balsa, wood, plastic kits and 3D prints. The applicator is a brush built into the cap, so you place the glue exactly on the edge, into the seam or onto a tiny part and nowhere else. The medium viscosity doesn't run beyond the joint, sets in 5–15 seconds without clamps and cures clear — with no white haze on painted or transparent parts.
Models, foam, kits
One bottle for every material in the build — from a polystyrene fuselage to a painted plastic part.
Plastic kits and 3D prints
Fuselage seams, landing gear, tiny parts — the brush lays down a thin coat with no overflow onto the paint.
Polystyrene and foam models
EPS, EPP, XPS — RC aircraft, dioramas, architectural models. The foam stays intact.
Balsa, wood, leather, ceramics
Quick fixes during a build: hold the part with your fingers and carry on within seconds.

Glue exactly where the brush reaches.
The tip of an ordinary bottle gives you no control over the amount — the drop is always bigger than the seam needs. Here you pick the glue up on the brush and paint it on: a thin coat along an edge, into a narrow seam, onto a tiny part held in tweezers. The medium viscosity, similar to motor oil, runs off the bristles into the joint but doesn't soak in or run beyond it. No extra applicators, no preparation.
- brush built into the cap — open, paint, close
- a thin, controlled coat even on parts where a drop from the tip would ruin the paint
- cures clear, with no white haze on transparent and painted surfaces
- sets in 5–15 seconds — hold the part with your fingers, no clamps needed

It bonds polystyrene instead of eating it.
Classic ethyl cyanoacrylate dissolves foam materials and its fumes sting the eyes. Hobby & Craft Brush-On is based on 2-methoxyethyl cyanoacrylate — a formula that is foam-safe on EPS, EPP and XPS and has a much lower odour. The manufacturer developed it for modelling foam, balsa and wood; with 3D prints (PLA, ABS, resin) the behaviour varies with the material and surface finish — always test on a hidden spot first.
- EPS · EPP · XPS foam · balsa · wood · plastic kits · ceramics · leather · rubber
- PLA / ABS / resin 3D prints — always after a test on a hidden spot
- lower odour — more comfortable work at the bench; still ventilate, the fumes may irritate the airways
Step-by-step instructions
Super glue holds best as a thin coat on a clean, tight-fitting joint.
Prepare the parts
Clean, dry, free of dust and release agent; lightly scuff glossy plastic.
Load the brush
Unscrew the cap and wipe off the excess on the neck. A thin coat on one surface is enough.
Paint the joint
Along the edge or into the seam — a coat, not a drop. Don't press on foam; the bristles won't damage it.
Press together for 5–15 s
Bring the parts together and hold until the joint sets. Don't pull the joint apart or shift it.
Close the cap
Straight away — moisture in the air cures the glue. The joint reaches full strength after curing over a matter of hours.
⚠️ The most common mistake
Too much glue. Cyanoacrylate cures with moisture from the air — a thick layer won't cure in the middle, the joint is weak and a white haze appears around it. Paint a thin coat on one surface and press the parts tightly together. Thicker gaps call for an accelerator or a thicker glue.
Choose by the seam
Both products are foam-safe and low-odour. They differ in viscosity and in how you apply them.

Setting time depends on the material, the coat thickness and humidity — it is longer in dry conditions.

Frequently asked questions
Foam, 3D prints, odour, haze and safety.
Does it really not dissolve polystyrene?
Yes — unlike ordinary super glue, the formula based on 2-methoxyethyl cyanoacrylate is foam-safe on EPS, EPP and XPS: it bonds the foam but doesn't eat into it. That is exactly why the manufacturer developed it for modelling foam, balsa and wood.
Is it suitable for PLA or ABS 3D prints?
Often yes, but the behaviour varies with the material and the print's surface finish. The manufacturer recommends always testing on a hidden spot first. On porous prints, where a thin super glue soaks in, the medium viscosity of the brush-on is an advantage.
How fast does it hold, and when is the joint at full strength?
Press the parts together for 5–15 seconds — then they hold without clamps. Cyanoacrylate reaches full strength by curing over a matter of hours; until then, don't put the joint under full load.
Is it really odourless?
The odour is much lower than with classic super glue, so it is comfortable to work with at the bench. According to the safety data sheet, however, the fumes may irritate the airways — work in a ventilated room and don't breathe them in.
Will a white haze remain around the joint?
The glue cures clear. White haze (so-called blooming) forms with cyanoacrylates mainly when there is too much glue and it cures slowly — paint on a thin coat and press the parts tightly together.
How does it differ from Odorless Thin NO-05?
NO-05 is a very thin super glue that wicks into a tight seam on its own. Brush-On has a medium viscosity and a brush — it suits edges, tiny parts and painted surfaces where you need to place the glue precisely and in a controlled way.
How do I handle the glue safely?
It irritates the skin and eyes, and the fumes may irritate the airways — work with gloves and safety glasses, ventilate and wash your hands afterwards. Cyanoacrylate bonds skin and eyes instantly (EUH202); don't force bonded fingers apart, release them with warm soapy water. Keep out of reach of children. Details in the safety data sheet above.

Fill a knot or a crack with black glue, set it with accelerator and sand it back — the repair blends into the grain. An essential step before pouring epoxy, so the slab doesn’t “leak”.

What you ask us about Starbond
How is Starbond different from an ordinary superglue from the shop?
Industrial-grade cyanoacrylate purity, a precisely defined viscosity and fresh batches. An ordinary glue comes in one thickness and you have no idea how long it sat in a warehouse. Starbond has six viscosities from 2 to 2000 cP, each for a different job, and a 30-month shelf life.
Which viscosity should I pick if I’m not sure?
EM-150 Medium. At 150 cP (roughly motor oil) it will both seep into gaps and fill smaller voids — one glue for wood, stone, ceramics, leather and most plastics. Sets in 10–20 seconds.
What is the accelerator for, and do I need it?
CA glue cures with airborne moisture — the accelerator triggers the reaction instantly. It pays off with thick glues, large fills and on dry wood, where the glue would cure slowly. Spray the other side of the joint, not the glue itself.
How should I store Starbond so it lasts?
Cool, dry and tightly closed — ideally in the fridge (let it warm to room temperature before use, or moisture will condense). Wipe the bottle after use so the neck doesn’t glue shut. Unopened, it lasts 30 months.
