A kit the maker put together for woodworkers and owners of hand-finished furniture: Furniture Oil soaks into the wood and cures to a durable matte finish, Furniture Butter lays a water-resistant satin layer on top, and Furniture Polish keeps the finished piece alive and protected over time. All three are 100% natural, free of VOCs and solvents, so you can apply them indoors without a respirator — with the cloth that comes in the box.

You don't have to piece furniture care together across several orders. The box holds the base finish, the protective wax and the polish for upkeep — the whole cycle a finished piece goes through, from the first coat to years of use.

Each product has its own role in the cycle.
The kit is built so that the products follow on from one another. Furniture Oil penetrates the fibres and cures inside the wood — the result is a durable matte surface that is easy to maintain and that brings dry, tired furniture back to life. Furniture Butter then seals the surface with a wax layer that adds satin sheen and water resistance — ideal for tabletops and surfaces where glasses get put down. Furniture Polish is the ongoing upkeep: a quick lift of the colour, a water-repellent protective layer and cover for fine scratches on the finished surface.

From bare wood to sheen, step by step
All three products go on with a cloth — no brushes, no thinning, indoors.
- Prepare the surface — clean, dry, sanded wood (for a refresh, cleaning is enough).
- Furniture Oil — apply a thin coat with a cloth, let it soak in, wipe off the excess. For stronger protection, repeat once it has cured.
- Furniture Butter — spread a thin layer of wax over the cured oil, let it dry and buff to a satin sheen.
- Furniture Polish — any time later: buff in a small amount with a cloth; the surface lifts and repels water again.

What is the Furniture Finish Master Kit?
A set of three natural Walrus Oil products for wooden furniture — Furniture Oil (236 ml), Furniture Butter (236 ml) and Furniture Polish (85 g) — with a cotton polishing cloth and a gift box. It covers the whole cycle: the base oil finish, the wax protection and the ongoing upkeep.
What order should I use the products in?
Furniture Oil first as the base (let it cure), then Furniture Butter as the protective satin layer, and Furniture Polish any time later to lift the finished surface. On furniture that is already finished you can go straight to the Butter or the Polish.
Does the kit suit old furniture too?
Yes. Furniture Oil is made to revive dry, tired old furniture as well — once wiped down with a cloth, fine scratches and scuffs visually disappear. The Polish then keeps the surface up.
Are the products safe for a dining table or children's furniture?
Yes. All three are 100% natural, free of VOCs and solvents, and food-contact safe — the maker recommends them for dining tables, cribs and rocking chairs.
Do I need a respirator or brushes?
No. The products contain no solvents, they go on indoors with no respiratory protection, and a cloth is all you need — one comes in the box.
What is the difference between the oil and the butter?
The oil penetrates the wood and cures inside it (matte finish, the base of the protection); the wax stays on the surface and adds a satin sheen with water resistance. In the kit they complement each other — oil as the base, wax as the protection, polish as the upkeep.

Walrus Oil — oils and waxes with no chemicals, no synthetics
After a difficult childhood marked by health complications, Dave Darr graduated from college in 2009 and moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan. In his spare time he restored antique furniture and began experimenting with unique, all-natural ingredients that could be used as a wood finish.

A few years later Dave moved to Ozark and started a commercial woodworking business, supplying restaurants with tables and cutting boards made from local timber sourced in the Ozark Mountains. He noticed the market lacked food-safe wood finishes with transparent ingredient lists — so he began bottling and selling his own proven recipes. He called them “Walrus Oil”, a name loosely inspired by the impressive moustache he was known for.
Since day one, Walrus Oil has donated profits to environmental programmes. In 2020 the company partnered with the National Forest Foundation, pledging to plant several thousand trees a year. In 2021 it deepened that commitment by becoming an official tree-planting partner. Walrus Oil is also an official member of 1% For The Planet.

What you ask us about Walrus Oil
Are the products genuinely safe for food contact?
Yes. The kitchen range is NSF certified and meets FDA GRAS (food-contact safe). The products are also vegan, certified by the American Vegetarian Association, and contain no VOCs or fragrance — suitable for sensitive users and commercial kitchens alike.
Oil or wax for a cutting board?
Both — each does a different job. Cutting Board Oil penetrates the wood, saturates it and restores water repellency. Wood Wax then seals the surface and adds a soft satin sheen. The best result is the combination: oil first, wax once it has soaked in.
What is the difference between tung and linseed oil?
Pure Tung Oil is a 100% pure natural oil — it penetrates deeply, beautifully enhances the grain and creates a water-resistant surface, but cures more slowly. Polymerized Linseed Oil is heat-treated linseed oil — it cures faster and forms a tougher film. Both are suitable for dining tables and boards.
How often should I treat the wood?
It depends on use. A reliable cue: as soon as the wood looks dry, lightens in colour or stops repelling water, it is time to oil. For heavily used boards, a quick top-up with coconut oil between full treatments helps.
